Quintessential Copenhagen, Inner Østerbro

After suffering through a weekend of atrocious Canadian weather (snow, ice pelts, heavy rain, cold), I thought I would cheer myself up by posting a couple more pictures I took last weekend. The first is of Trianglen, the Times Square/Piccadilly Circus of inner Østerbro. I reference these because of the square’s electronic billboards (not seen) and its position as a major crossroad for vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Anyone expecting anything rivaling Times Square or Piccadilly Circus will be sorely disappointed. Copenhagen is a city on a much more human scale so there is not much that will leave you in awe.

When the days get longer and the sun’s rays warm up, Danes head to the closest 7-11, grab a beer and head outside. For prudish North Americans, get used to it; public drinking is completely acceptable and commonplace because of the high level of taxation on goods sold in bars and cafes. In this case, the natives are enjoying their favourite brew in the late afternoon sun along the edge of “The Lakes”.
